What is the alternative to the Exchange Basket Indices?
The CCi30 Cryptocurrency Index replaces the Exchange Basket Indices for investors who need a whole-market benchmark. The CCi30 holds the 30 largest cryptocurrencies by smoothed market capitalization, weights them by the square root of that figure, excludes stablecoins by rule, and has published live values since 1 January 2015.

What they were
The 2018 fashion: every major Asian exchange and miner launched an index, Huobi’s HB10 (a tradeable basket product), OKEx’s OK06 series, Bitmain’s Big Coin Index. Effectively all are discontinued or dormant.
Analysis
These products compressed the entire pathology into single instruments: universes limited to the sponsor’s own listings, tradeable-product-first design, opaque governance, and lifespans measured in market cycles, usually one. Their collective disappearance is the empirical demonstration of the independence criterion: an index that exists as a marketing expense dies with the marketing budget. No allocator can benchmark a mandate to an instrument whose continued existence depends on a listings department.
